8 Simple and Effective Home Remedies for Headache
1. Lukewarm Water with Lemon
Many at times stomach gas or dehydration are the reasons for your headache.
In such cases, drinking a glass of lukewarm water by adding 1-2 spoons of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of honey, can help you get instant relief from headache.
Also, drinking lemon tea can prove to be highly beneficial.
2. Ginger
In Ayurveda, Ginger holds a very significant place in the treatment of headaches.
There are two ways in which you can effectively use ginger to get relief from headache.
1) Take one spoon of chopped ginger and boil it in a glass of water for a few minutes.
Then, sieve the water and drink it. You can also add a spoon of lemon juice into it.
2) You can also inhale the steam generated after boiling water and ginger.
3. Basil
Basil also known as Tulsi holds a significant place in the Indian Ayurveda. The analgesic property of basil relaxes the muscles, treats headaches, and reduces the stress.
There are mainly two ways in which you can use Basil to get rid of headaches.
1) Drinking Basil Tea
To make basil tea, take 5-6 basil leaves and boil it in a cup of water for a few minutes.
Then, sieve the water and drink it. You can also add half a teaspoon of honey to enhance its effectiveness.
2) Inhale the Basil Oil Steam
You can put 5-6 drops of basil oil in a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam.
If you don’t have basil oil then, take 5-6 basil leaves and boil it in a cup of water and inhale the steam.
4. Mint
Another effective home remedy is mint. The menthol present in mint has relaxing properties, which can help you get relief from headaches.
There are two ways you can use mint to get rid of the headache.
1) Drink Mint Tea
You can make mint tea similarly to the Basil tea by boiling 5-6 mint leaves in a cup of water.
Then, sieve the water and drink it. You can also add a pinch of black pepper to enhance its effect.
2) Mix 3-4 drops of mint oil in half a teaspoon of coconut oil and massage it on your forehead.
5. Sound Sleep
Many at times one of the reasons for headache is a lack of sound sleep. Sound sleep means having asleep for a certain period of time without any disturbances.
Many scientific studies suggest that an adult should sleep at least 6-8 hours daily.

6. Pressing the Acupressure Point
This practice has been derived from the traditional Chinese practice of acupuncture. The acupressure point that I am going to discuss is Hegu or LI-4.
To activate the pressure point, identify the v point between the thumb and index finger. This v point is the space where the bones of the thumb and index finger meet.
Now, with the other thumb gently press this point and move it in a circular way for 5 minutes.
Now repeat this process on the other hand.
You can do this remedy whenever you are experiencing a headache.
7. Eating Apple with Salt
The combination of apple and salt has been found to be really effective in providing relief from headaches.
To do this remedy, cut an apple into half and then put a pinch of salt on both the halves and eat it.
8. Eucalyptus or Lavender Oil
Mix 3-4 drops of Eucalyptus or Lavender oil with half a teaspoon of coconut or olive or almond oil and massage your forehead with it to get instant relief from headache.
You can also inhale the steam by putting 3-4 drops of Eucalyptus or Lavender oil in a bowl of hot water if the headache is due to nasal congestion or sinus.
This remedy is also extremely effective if the headache is migraine pain.
Some Precautions to Prevent Headache
1. Drink plenty of water: Drinking less water throughout the day sometimes may cause a severe headache. Thus, drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Many scientific studies recommend that an adult should drink at least 8 glasses of water which is about 2 liters daily.
2. Eat foods rich in Riboflavin, Magnesium, Vitamin D, and Calcium such as Green vegetables, almonds, milk, eggs, bananas, avocados, apricots, cashews, and almonds.
3. Do not consume alcohol and avoid smoking.
4. Reduce the intake of foods high in caffeine such as coffee.
5. Have a well-balanced diet.
